The original building, built at the end of the 1970s, had a functional but unattractive architecture. The building needed a facelift to remain attractive compared to the new shopping centres built in Bergen, Kortrijk or Lille. To give Tournai another commercial centre worthy of the name, a thorough renovation was necessary. This extension has made it possible to create larger commercial spaces, both in terms of surface area and volume. The total area of the Bastions has been increased to 83,000 m².
The number of parking spaces has been expanded to meet the increase in the number of customers. In total there are now almost 2,000 spaces available. The existing open-air car park was partially replaced by an underground car park with 1,150 parking spaces, spread over two levels and with direct access to the new gallery.
A new public space between the shopping centre and the business park functions as a transition area with large green spaces, entrances and exits, cycle paths, pedestrian paths, rest areas, a bus stop, bicycle parking facilities and water features.
