The new residential care centre is situated on a triangular parcel of land, along Leopoldstraat and Brusselsesteenweg in Zemst. The L-shaped volume completes the streetscape in Leopoldstraat, while leaving sufficient space in Brusselsesteenweg for a green garden, thus establishing a counterbalance with the existing town house. The strong points of this concept are transparency and accessibility. There are two passageways on the plot of land, which connect the two streets with each other. The garden is visible from several angles because we chose to work with transparent volumes.
The general services, including the administration and the cafeteria, as well as two units of the residential care centre are located on the ground floor. The cellar mainly consists of offices as well as a qualitative public area. There are two other units and eighteen assisted living flats on the other floors.
The interior and exterior of the existing town house will be fully restored to their former glory.
