Human beings and the environment occupy a central place in the development and operation of this project. The penitentiary complex has been designed on the basis of open, short thoroughfares, as well as clearly distinct entities.

The structure consists of three cell wings radiating from a courtyard, and special attention has been paid to the insulation of the walls and to the access of natural light. The penitential centre also includes a large number of patios. The staff of the centre is provided with a quality space for relaxation and another space enables families and visitors to meet in a warmer atmosphere. This concept is intended to enhance the quality of life of all the occupants, to provide personnel with a pleasant working environment and to reduce the impact on the environment.

The project includes many sustainability measures, not only in terms of energy consumption, but also in terms of materials, comfort and user-friendliness, water consumption, and the prevention of waste, etc. The prison is intended to be as economic as possible in terms of energy and aims to achieve energy neutrality while at the same time ensuring the comfort of the occupants.
