Having established the master plans, the office has followed the evolution of the hospital since the mid-‘80s. The Hôpital d’Ixelles is located within a block in an urban zone and has evolved even despite this constraint. With successive expansions involving demolitions then rebuilding, the institution has moved on from an initial fishbone configuration to a composition of adjacent blocks.

Currently embarking upon its fifth phase in the master plan, the medical/technical block has 7 levels, including one underground parking level for personnel and with a floor dedicated to logistics, a conventional surgery operating block and 5 operating rooms and 21 rest facilities, a 9-station intensive treatment unit and a central sterilisation department.

The façade of the new wing is provided with strip structures to dissimulate the buildings opposite and to protect it from the sun, but also to project a more uniform network over the range of windows.
